A total of Sh55 million has been invested by GE Foundation’s ‘Health work developing Health Globally’ in the development of a new state-of-the-art 7-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital (Russia) in Kisumu.
The move was done in collaboration with the Kisumu County Government and the hospital administration.
The make over consisted of the renovation of the facility, six ventilators, 8 high-end automated patient monitors, 8 suction machines, 7 ICU beds, along with extra accessories and consumables.
Speaking at the facility GE Foundation Executive Director David Barash said they are happy to make such donations and for a great course.
Barash said the donation is only a part of an overall system of strengthening the work that the foundation is committed to doing in the region.
He said the hospital should ensure that they now have enough and well trained staff to handle the unit and it can be achieved through good leadership.
The County Executive members for Health Elizabeth Ogaja said she was very grateful for the support from GE Foundation and CPHD - a regional health non-profit organization as the implementing partner where it donated equipment and are committed to doing their best to ensure that they have good staffing.
The new equipment included infant warmers, patient monitors, a CT scan machine and ventilators.
