Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett has announced that the government will spend Sh5 billion to improve the country’s food and nutrition security.
The five-year programme will find options meant to increase food availability and promote greater access to adequate and nutritious food.
Apart from the mandatory maize flour fortification, the Agriculture ministry is in talks with millers to start blending different kinds of flours to provide food that has all rounded ingredients.
According to Agriculture Secretary Anne Onyango, the ministry is focusing on developing strategies of increasing food production, strengthening distribution and marketing systems, and developing reliable storage systems.
She was speaking during the ongoing National Agrinutrition Conference in Nairobi, where she represented Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett.
