Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has vehemently dismissed claims that his administration had set aside Sh61 million for funeral arrangements across the county.
This comes after a section of social media users accused the Nyamira leadership in collaboration with the county assembly of setting aside Sh61 million for funerals.
On Wednesday, Nyagarama accused residents of ‘wishful’ thinking and blamed his competitors of peddling lies against his regime.
“I am really saddened that some people out of their wishful thinking can come up with such an outdated allegation. My government has never set aside funds to cater for funerals across the county,” he said.
“The budgetary allocations are in the public domain and someone should come and boldly show us such kind of allocations. This is just pure lies from my competitors and it’s not the right way to go,” added the county boss.
He said all leaders had an obligation to contribute from their own pockets to social functions whenever asked by residents and insisted that social functions traditionally were done out of good will.
“Anyone who understands our tradition, social functions are put in a manner that a leader decides whether or not to support and my government has never set a kitty of such,” he said.
