More than 80 youth and women groups in Ainabkoi Constituency in Uasin Gishu County on Friday received Sh7 million from the Uwezo Fund kitty.
Speaking while issuing the cheques to the groups, area MP, Samuel Chepkonga, said the money will be used in creating employment among youth and women in the constituency.
“We hope the groups that have received the money will use it wisely to develop income generating activities that will help improve their lives,” said Chepkonga.
A total of 86 groups in the constituency were each given not less than Sh100,000 to promote various businesses and enterprises within their respective areas.
“I am urging you to spend the money wisely in line with your proposals so that you too will be able to repay the money for others to also benefit they way you have,” the MP told the groups.
The fund established early this year, provides an alternative model for funding community driven development projects at the constituency level.
