The national government in collaboration with Isiolo County government have rolled out a livestock drought support plan to prevent animal deaths.
According to the county Livestock chief officer Adan Jaldesa, Sh7 million plan is targeting 10,000 cattle and 20,000 goats and sheep in Merti Isiolo and Garbatulla.
The plan includes supply of multi vitamins, treating and deworming emaciated livestock in selected watering points within the sub-counties.
"The money will be used to buy drugs to treat the animals against diseases to curb unnecessary deaths of the animals", said Jaldesa.
The officer noted that following the prolonged drought in the region, animals tends to be attacked by diseases easily due to lack of pasture.
"Animals may feed on anything they come across during this time the region is experiencing drought. But, the plan will help give the animals injections to prevent disease outbreak which may kill the animals", he added.
