Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) pupils in Kisumu are set to benefit from a Sh8 million feeding program courtesy of the county government.

The program which is set to be rolled out in the course of the year is one among a series of plans by the county government to strengthen ECDE learning in Kisumu.

Another Sh7 million has been set aside to add stock of ECDE learning materials at the centres.

New ECDE classrooms will also be established in all the 35 wards in the county before end of the year 2016.

In a press statement sent to newsrooms Thursday, Governor Jack Ranguma said the county government has completed construction of 96 ECDE classrooms across the county.

“Construction of 20 more ECDE classrooms are still underway and will be completed before the end of this year,” the statement further read.

Speaking to this writer on phone seperately, the governor said his government is committed to achieving its constitutional mandate to providing and ensuring quality ECD education in the lakeside county.

“We recruited 700 ECDE teacher assistants to ensure all our children acquire basic education,” added Ranguma.
