The government is meeting stakeholder in the maize industry on Wednesday to discuss the next steps as far as the subsidised Sh90  unga is concerned and conduct a review food security in the country.

According to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett, the government is meeting Cereal Millers Association and Cereal Growers Associations to discuss the exit strategy to the subsidy in the next one-and-a -half months.

“However, the ministry will, together with value chain players, initiate discussions on ending the scheme in the next one-and-a -half months,” Bett said.

However, Bett also said they are working on a framework to ensure maize is available at a cheaper rate after the Sh6 billion subsidy programme is cut short.
