Over 22,000 people in Elgeyo Marakwet county are set to benefit from a multi-million water project by the national government.
Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Prof. Fred Sergor on Monday presided over the ground breaking ceremony for the Moiben-Kuserwo Community water project that will cost Sh91 million.
Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Sergor said the government was committed to ensuring Kenyans across the county have easy access to clean water.
"This is just one of the many projects the government has initiated across the country with an aim of ensuring universal access to clean water," said the PS.
Elgeyo Marakwet governor Alex Tolgos who hosted the PS welcomed the project which he said would benefit over 22,000 people living around the area.
"Over 18 villages and at least 12 institutions around this area will benefit from this water project," Tolgos.
The project will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase estimated to cost Sh60 million and Sh31 million for the second phase.
