Residents cited that despite the cholera outbreak in the area the county government was doing nothing to control the murk and raw sewer.

Shabab Welfare Association Chairman Geoffrey Kimani cited that it was ironic that the health department has not done enough to curb the situation yet it is telling people to take care.

“The government is yet to give us clean water yet there is cholera outbreak. Aqua tablets cannot help if they do not address the initial problem,” said Kimani.

Kimani cited that among the issues they would raise in court is the rampant food hawking in the area which was still on despite the cholera outbreak

“The only thing they have done is come with cans indicating that there is a cholera outbreak,” said Kimani.

The Association Secretary Magdalene Waweru said that the health officers were reluctant to carry out their job.

“Their lack of preparedness is shocking. Especially since they had already heard of similar cases in Kisii and they refused to act on it. They should resign with immediate effect. We will seek to have the courts ensure that they are immediately sacked from their jobs for laxity,” said Waweru.
