Residents at the Estate claim that cases of crime have increased with small business traders and homesteads being targeted.

Speaking on Saturday, Sheila Waithera who is a tailor within the Estate alleged that thieves broke into her shop stealing clothes and undisclosed amount of money.

Waithera alleged that criminals are roaming the Estate freely and are causing fear among businessmen and residents.

“It is no longer safe here, a day hardly passes without hearing a case or two of robberies and break-ins,” said Waithera.

Waithera noted that though Police have been patrolling the area, crime still remains a problem with so many residents left wondering about their safety.

Waithera’s sentiments were echoed by Joshua Maroa a taxi driver in the Estate who alleged that crime is sometimes committed in broad day light adding that things even get worse at night forcing him to close down business early.

“I used to operate beyond midnight but things changed following the upsurge in crime in this Estate,” alleged Maroa.

He added, “Last week one taxi operator was robbed of money and other valuables as he dropped a passenger at 8pm,” said Maroa.

Maroa asked law enforcers to deal with criminals alleging that some are young teenagers who are being used to commit crime.

Nakuru Divisional Police Commandant Bernard Kioko while responding to the claims said that security will be intensified in the area.

Commandant Kioko urged residents to report cases of crime assuring them that security will be intensified in the area adding that security officials are on high alert and will not give room to suspected criminals.
