Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has downplayed allegations that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration has sidelined the Muslim community.
Speaking at Mombasa Women’s Association hall, Shahbal, a strong critic of the opposition, argued that the Jubilee government has protected the rights of Muslims. He noted that the President has offered Muslims top jobs including cabinet secretaries among others that give the community more reason to back his re-election.“In a Cabinet of 18, Jubilee has four Muslim members. I don’t think for a second Jubilee has been unfair to this community,” he said.Shahbal also asked leaders aligned to the National Super Alliance (NASA) not to engage in cheap politics as we head to the August elections.Shahbal, who is contesting against Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, said politics of propaganda is a recipe for chaos, adding that leaders should avoid the same. The outspoken politician further admitted that extra judicial killings have been witnessed in the county but argued that Muslims are not the only affected group.“It has taken place against Mungiki, and various other groups,” he said.
