Mombasa businessman Suleiman Shahbal has criticised the county government over the launch of a project dubbed '001 ni kujipanga'.
The project has set aside Sh35 million for youth, women and persons living with disability.
Speaking on Wednesday during a political meeting organised by Jubilee supporters in Mombasa, Shahbal who is a strong critic of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, claimed the county government had realised that their five-year term was coming to an end without having achieved anything, thus was rushing to create projects that don’t hold water.
This comes a week after the county government launched the project, where the said groups will benefit from loans.
“How come for the past five years they haven’t done anything to help youth who have drowned in drug addiction, and women who have been left out in development projects? Why the rush now?” asked Shahbal.
The governor hopeful claimed the county government is trying to bribe its voters in order to retain power in the next general election.
