Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar is on the receiving end over his remarks dismissing his rivals as unsuitable candidates for the county governorship.

During the launch if his Citizen Manifesto Initiative on Wednesday, Omar described himself as the best among the candidates eying the county top seat.

But on Thursday, Jubilee Party governor hopeful Suleiman Shahbal castigated the Senator saying he lacks the experience to manage the county.

“I am glad that Omar recognises my experience in banking and that I have the capacity to be the CBK governor. But the problem with him is that he has never run a business in his life,” added Shahbal as quoted by the Nation.

The former Gulf African Bank chairman said his experience in the running of institutions is what is needed to manage the county.

He said Omar only has experience in activism.

He further accused the Wiper secretary general of failing to play his oversight role with regards to the county's resources.

“Where was Omar for close to four years when he was supposed to provide oversight at the county?” he asked.

Shahbal made the remarks in Shanzu on the sidelines of a three-day leadership and integrity training programme for 179 Jubilee Party aspirants seeking the positions of MCA and woman representative.

The race for Mombasa top seat has attracted four aspirants including ODM's Governor Hassan Joho, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti, Senator Omar and JP's Shahbal.
