Mombasa governor hopeful Suleiman Shahbal has hit the ground running bankrolling his political maneuvers with door-to-door campaigns.
After spending the past two days in Kisauni and Likoni constituencies, the Jubilee candidate on Monday took his campaigns to Changamwe's Miritini Ward. While asking the locals to support his gubernatorial bid, Shahbal who is facing Governor Hassan Joho in what will be a rematch of the 2013 elections promised to end the perennial water problem in the area.According to Shahbal, he will set up water kiosks within a radius of 50 meters in Miritini, parts of Jomvu and Changamwe so that the problem becomes an issue of the past. He further promised to reduce the water kiosks licensing fees from the current Sh 10,000.Shahbal who later addressed women leaders promised to empower women by making capital available and ensure they can register companies and bid for government tenders.Changamwe is seen by many as a key battle ground in the county and the presence of seasoned politician Ramadhan Kajembe who represented the constituency for three uninterrupted terms is expected to shape the constituency's voting pattern in the August poll.Kajembe who lost his senatorial bid in 2013 while vying on an ODM ticket has since switched allegiance to Jubilee and Shahbal is expected to be the biggest beneficiary of his move.
