Suleiman Shahbal's quest for Mombasa governor received a major boost on Sunday after he was endorsed by a section of leaders of the Abagusii community.
The governor hopeful who engaged the community leaders in a discussion accused the current Mombasa County leadership of allegedly marginalizing members of the community when it comes to government appointments. He said his administration will not marginalize any community, adding that everyone will be well represented in the county government. While promising to take care of the community's welfare if elected the next Mombasa governor, Shahbal said he will create an enabling business environment for the Gusii community. He accused Governor Hassan Joho of giving the community a raw deal. With majority of the Kisii community members engaged in the matatu business, Shahbal noted that despite paying Sh 2,000 parking fees every month, they do not have a stage in the CBD which he said subjects them to too much harassment from the county law enforcement officers.Shahbal's endorsement comes barely a week after the members of the Somali community vowed to back Governor Joho's bid for a second term in office.
