Mombasa governor candidate Suleiman Shahbal has said that the county will suffer economically if Governor Hassan Joho is re-elected.

Shahbal claims that the county’s economy is bleeding from Joho’s poor leadership.

In an interview with the People Daily, Shahbal said that Joho’s government has done little to boost the economy for the four and half years he has been in office.

The Jubilee governor accused Joho of implementing unfriendly economic policies which he said have scared both local and foreign investors.

He said that Joho’s poor relationship with the business community has affected the county’s growth.

‘‘Joho has frustrated the business community ever since he took office and his re-election will be disastrous for the county’s economy,’’ he said as quoted by the People Daily.

Shahbal said that traders and the business community is grappling with exorbitant taxes and levies imposed on them.

The Jubilee governor hopeful pleaded with the business community to back his bid promising to address their concerns.

Shahbal said that he will revamp the county’s economy in 100 days if elected.

He said that his first assignment will be to lower taxes and levies on small scale traders, create friendly economic policies and jobs if elected.

The Jubilee governor hopeful said that he will make the county an economic hub by the time his term expired if elected.

Shahbal is among aspirants eyeing to send Joho packing.

Others are Senator Hassan Omar vying on Wiper ticket and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti contusing on Vibrant Democratic Movement (VDM).

Joho is seeking re-election on ODM ticket.
