Mombasa Jubilee Party governor candidate Suleiman Shahbal has disclosed why he ditched Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party.
Speaking when he met a delegation of members of the Kamba community on Monday, Shahbal said he abandoned the former Vice President after trying to convince him to declare interest in the Presidency, but he refused.“Immediately after the 2013 polls, I asked Kalonzo to declare that he will run for President in 2017, but he said he is waiting for Raila Odinga’s endorsement,” said Shahbal.“In the last meeting at his Yatta home, I told him to make public his interest for the country’s top seat. He said we should wait. I said after I leave the meeting, I will never look back. I will join the winning team Jubilee,” he added.Shahbal recounted that he tried to warn Kalonzo not to wait for Raila’s endorsement, but his advice fell on deaf ears.“My brother Kalonzo told me to wait because Raila had promised him the presidency. I told him Raila is a perennial liar, but he never listened. Look at what happened,” Shahbal said. The governor candidate urged Kambas to back President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bis, saying they will never benefit from NASA even if Raila wins in the August polls.“We need to come together and support Uhuru for the interest of our people,” he added.Kalonzo Musyoka will be Raila Odinga’s running mate under the National Super Alliance (NASA) in the August 8, polls.
