Mombasa businessman and politician Suleiman Shahbal has said that he has not given up on one time being Mombasa governor.
Shahbal says that he will again bid for the seat in the 2022 general election.
Shahbal who twice unsuccessfully contested for the top seat claims that he has the experience to lead Mombasa County.
“My political silence does not mean that I have given up, I am still active and will make a comeback when time comes,” he said on Monday as quoted by a local daily.
Shahbal said that he is strategizing on how to win the top seat in 2022.
The businessman said that Governor Hassan Joho’s win in 2013 and 2017 was based on his popularity as ODM deputy party leader and not on ability to deliver on development.
He said that Mombasa needs a focused governor who understands the needs of the people.
Shahbal accused Governor Joho of spending much time traveling all over the world instead of working for the people.
“Mombasa needs a person who will go on the ground and address the many issues facing the people,” he said.
Governor Joho has been making trips across the world in what he says is business trips.
The governor’s trip has been defended by his close allies, saying it is for the interest of the Mombasa people.
