Mombasa governor aspirant Suleiman Shahbal of Jubilee Party has dismissed the recent opinion polls by TIFA pitting his biggest rival Governor Hassan Joho ahead in the run up to Tuesday’s general election.
According to Shahbal, the findings are a big joke.“These opinion polls are just hot air. Whoever pays for them is the one who calls the shot. In 2013, the opinion polls put Joho in the lead at 69 per cent but the reality during the elections was different,” stated the aspirant during an interview on NTV on Wednesday night. The Jubilee point man in Mombasa claimed that Joho would not be governor had he not rigged the 2013 polls. In the findings released by TIFA Monday, Joho would easily retain his seat by beating his rivals; Shahbal, Hassan Omar of Wiper and Vibrant Democratic Party candidate Hezron Awiti. The poll put Joho's support at 74 per cent, Shahbal at 12 per cent, while Omar and Awiti have six and two per cent respectively. While dismissing the survey, Shahbal said he’s the best candidate to manage and restore Mombasa’s glory. He said he will get rid of the mafia state tag which Mombasa has now become. On land, the former banker said the Jubilee administration led by President Uhuru Kenyatta has done a lot in addressing the matter. He accused the ODM party of making it a campaign issue yet it does not offer solutions.
