[Photo: Dr Alfred Mutua]Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua led a massive countywide cleaning exercise to clear garbage that had suddenly, three months to the election, creeped up in the county. He said he established that his rival, Wavinya Ndeti had been sponsoring county employees to sabotage the garbage collection program and organising for lorries of garbage from Nairobi county to dump garbage in the county."Shame on you Wavinya Ndeti for endangering the health and lives of our residents and our children. Shame on you!" the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader said, Monday. He noted that all that was being done so as he can look inefficient for propaganda reasons. "It does not make sense that for four years Machakos has been the cleanest county in Kenya and all of a sudden a few months to the elections I am unable to collect garbage," said Mutua who was accompanied by his wife, Lilian, in the clean-up exercise. He noted the sabotage had seen county equipment, especially in Mavoko sub-county disabled, fuel money stolen, staff allowances eaten and garbage dumped on roads."Today, for example, we have suspended a lorry driver and a mechanic who removed the battery from a garbage collection lorry and a mechanical part in the vehicle so as to disable the exercise."Mutua who faces tight competition from the Wiper candidate and former Kathiani MP, further directed CeC in charge of Decentralised Services to "weed out all corrupt officers and Wavinya Ndeti's moles.""I assure the people of Machakos county that I will not allow agents of poverty to destroy our county due to their naked greed for power," said the governor who seeks a re-election.
Mutua supports Jubilee Party's President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election, with Wavinya being Kalonzo Musyoka's best bet for him. The two have been locking horns, accusing each other of incompetence.
