Garbage collectors in Majengo, Umoja, Biafra and Runda estates in Hospital Ward, Thika West sub-county have been asked to be timely in their garbage collection work.
Thika West sub-county Environment Officer from Kiambu County Environment Department Janet Kanini has said that some contracted garbage collectors have been delaying for long before collecting garbage from various households in the area.
"This is against the terms of the contract we issued to them. Garbage should be collected at least twice a week to keep the residential areas clean and habitable," said Kanini on Wednesday in Umoja.
She also had a problem with other garbage collectors whom she said collect garbage and stack it on the estates' roadsides awaiting collection by trucks.
"The garbage should be collected from the source direct to the dumpsite. Stacking it up on the roadside and leaving it there to rot is unacceptable as it even pollutes the air by the bad stench," she said.
The environment officer warned that they may be forced to cancel some of the garbage collectors' contracts and licenses who are found not adhering to the terms of the contract.
