Nairobi woman representative Rachel Shebesh wants the Women Affirmative Action Fund kitty increased to help them initiate more projects aimed at uplifting the livelihoods of wananchi.
According to Shebesh, her first priority if re-elected on August 8, will be to lobby for such an increase to ensure the 47 women reps in the 12th Parliament can initiate more projects to help their electorate.
She said they pushed to have the kitty just as the other MPs who have the CDF, so that they too could have resources to assist those in need.
“If I’m re-elected, together with the other women reps, we will lobby to have the amount increased to the equivalent of what other members of Parliament get for their CDF kitty,” stated Shebesh during an interview on KBC TV on Wednesday night.
She said with the Sh7 million Affirmative Action kitty, she’s been able to launch several projects in the city aimed at helping the disabled, women and youth.
“As women reps, we should be given sufficient resources to spread our projects on the ground as the current allocation only allows us to focus on fewer groups,” she added.
The lawmaker said her projects speak for themselves and thus is confident of being given a second term.
She at the same time rallied city residents to ensure peace and tranquility prevails in the upcoming polls saying they need not fight each other because of individuals.
