Shinyalu MP Silverse Anami Lisamula has suffered a blow after he lost his re-election bid for a second time to his political rival Justus Kizito Mugali. This is after the ODM nominations were repeated in the region, Friday.
Kizito, who is the constituency’s former MP, was declared the winner by Returning Officer, Bishop William Abuka, after garnering 13,904 votes against Lisamula’s 6,660 votes, to secure his ticket.
According to Daily Nation, three polling stations had not released their results at the time Abuka made the announcement.
Incumbent Anami however protested the results saying the process was a sham.
“There were no elections in Shinyalu. We cannot accept what happened since the repeat nominations were a sham and a mockery of the wishes voters in Shinyalu. I’m holding consultations with my supporters on the next cause of action,” said Anami.
He questioned why the Returning Officer did not investigate an incident where deputy presiding officer was found with marked ballot papers before rushing to declare the winner.
''We are aware the deputy presiding officer had been going round the constituency marking ballot papers and stuffing ballot boxes in favour of my opponent and I cannot accept the results,” he said.
ODM National Elections Board ordered repeat of the exercise after Anami challenged the poll outcome, during earlier primaries that saw Kizito emerge victorious, citing anomalies during the process.
