Celebrated Kikuyu gospel artist Mary Wanjiru has added another prestigious award to her already decorated cabinet.
Popularly known as Shiru Wa GP, the talented musician was on Sunday announced the winner of Central Counties Song of the Year during the Groove Awards 2018.
It was courtesy of her song 'Irema' (Scars), that Shiru floored big names in the gospel music industry to scoop the key award.
Among the songs which had been nominated in the category were; Ngai Murathimi (God Who Bless) by veteran musician Pastor Ruth Wamuyu, Ngita Ya Daudi (David's Quitar) by Sammy Irungu and Phyllis Mbuthia's Itua Riaku (Your Decision).
Shiru took to her Facebook page to express her happiness and gratitude to her fans for helping her bag the coveted award.
"This is the work of the most high God. Thank u all ma fans for your love. May God bless you always," she posted.
In a recent interview with a local daily, the musician, who hails from Ngegu in Kiambu County, said she composed the winning song following her painful experience of losing a son at a tender age.
In September 2014, she lost one of her twins barely one and a half months after they had been born prematurely.
Shiru and her husband, Anthony Thuo, had spent over nine years trying to conceive with no luck.
"The experience inspired my song 'Irema' because the scars of life should not stop us from praising God. The bad things we go through are to encourage others in future. And I thank God for He saved my daughter Wambui who is now in school," the 'Agiginyani' hitmaker said.
