Residents of Ituti village in Mbooni, Makueni county on Tuesday evening were left in shock after a boy aged 2 years allegedly hanged himself.

The boy was playing with his younger sibling at their home in Ituti village when the incident happened. 

Richard Ndisya, area chief said the deceased mother found the body hanging from a rafter.

The administrator said the death is suspicious in the area considering the deceased tender age.

Ndisya said police have started investigation into the incident.

The boy's body was taken to Mbooni Health Care morgue.

Cases of people taking own lives have been on the rise across the country in the recent past.
