A 51-year-old man has left Kenyans on social media talking, after he opted to join class one to communicate with police officers while on their patrol near his home.
Abdi Dirir Olow, 51, a cook at Handaro Primary School in Garissa County opted to enroll for studies because of increase patrol by security officers in the region.
According to sources, Mzee Olow does not know Kiswahili and English, which has made his life more miserable in the recent past.
Speaking to the press, Fred Sigoria, Olow’s teacher, said that the man has been a cook for a period of six years, and that the constant harassment by the security officers in the county, who keep asking him for his documents and other questions in Kiswahili and English, has compelled him to join school.
‘’Ever since Kenyan Defence Forces were deployed to Somalia to fight Al-Shabaab, the once sleepy region in southern Garissa has been beehive of activities,’’ says Sigoria in Handaro.
The old man has been forced to go to school while accompanied by his two children.
"His children, Ismail Abdi is in Standard Three and his younger brother Hamud is his father’s classmate in Standard One,’’ said the teacher.
