Residents of Nyarwabe, Arura Ndonye in South Mugirango Kisii County were left in shock after an aborted child was found dumped in a river on Monday.
It is alleged that the baby was aborted elsewhere before the body was dumped in the area.
“We were crossing the river with my two daughters going to the neighboring farm to work on Monday around 7 am when we spotted the baby dumped in the river dead,” said Joan Moige, a witness.
Elders in the area condemned the incident and cursed the person who aborted, and killed the innocent child.
“Abortion is not allowed because it is similar to murder. Whoever did this will not see a child’s leg in the entire life. Police should move first and conduct thorough investigations to arrest the culprit,” said elder Andrew Okako.
Elijah Onchari, another elder said Nyumba Kumi officials who are familiar with families in the region must help police to get the woman who aborted the child.
Onchari warned school going children against engaging in sex before marriage.
“Local chiefs are failing the government efforts to provide education to our children. Any school going child should not engage in love affair and chiefs should arrest the minors spotted doing the same for the sake of ensuring the future of our children is bright,” said Onchari.
