A car shot from stationary traffic, crashing into a crowd of World Cup fans in Moscow after mounting a pavement.
Eight sustained injuries in the accident and one is said to be in a critical condition.
The driver, a 28-year old Kyrgyzstan national, responsible for the crash surrendered to the authorities after the incident.
He says that he was tired, fell asleep and ended up unwittingly stepping on the accelerator.
There were concerns that he might have been drunk but tests on his blood found no alcohol.
Investigators say that the crash may not have been deliberate.
It happened moments after the Argentina-Iceland fixture.
