A casket. There was drama in Kisii after a two churches fought over who should preside over a funeral. [Photo/Nation]There was drama in Masagege, Makara sub location, South Mugirango constituency Kisii County after two churches publicly engaged in a war of words to preside over a funeral service of a man who died and currently at a Kisii Hospital Mortuary.
The man was a member of Pentecostal Assemblies of God, PAG before he moved to Seventh Day Adventist.
PAG leaders wanted to preside over the funeral service citing that the deceased parents were active members in the church, but SDA leaders said the church was legible to preside over the funeral ceremony because the man died while still a member in the church.
“SDA should preside over the burial ceremony because the deceased was an active member in SDA until the time he died. We won’t allow anyone to compromise the burial of the late who deserves a good sendoff,” said a source who requested for anonymity.
The source claimed that PAG asked the family to pay Sh8,000 to preside over the function.
“How can you demand money to bury the dead? There is need we console and support the family and not asking bribe. We have offered to bury our church member without demanding any payment,” the source added.
The deceased is expected to be buried on Tuesday next week.
