Three officials from Garissa County have been summoned to appear in court for failing to pay a former CEO at the Garissa referral hospital.
Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Dagane moved to court after his salary was allegedly stopped since 2016 as he seeks to sue the government.
The court heard that Mr. Dagane was employed on March 5, 2013, as a Chief Executive Officer at the Garissa County Referral Hospital.
Mr. Dagane through his lawyer Mr. Daniel Rokoro said he signed a contract of six years with a gross pay of Sh459,089 per month.
Mr. Dagane claimed that part of his salary and benefits were withheld between in March 2016 and October 2017 adding that in November 1, 2017 it was stopped indefinitely without consultation.
Justice Steven Radido heard that as in March 2018, his accrued salary was Sh2,728,063.
Mr. Dagane alleges that he has suffered after he was working without pay and that during the December holiday, he was asked to stay home until a decision on his contract issue was reached by the new Governor Ali Korane.
He said that the court had issued an order that his outstanding salaries be paid but the county has failed to pay him.
Justice Radido in his ruling summoned Abdi Ali (County Secretary), Mohamed Sheikh (Executive Officer/Secretary to the County Service Board) and Ibrahim Malow (County Chief Officer-Finance) to appear in court.
“I have given orders to summon officers of Garissa County responsible for paying Dagane his salary and appear on the hearing date to explain why they did not execute the orders given on March 21,” Justice Radido ruled as quoted by Citizen.
The case will be heard on May 2, 2018.
