Learning was paralysed at Munanga Primary School in Malava on Wednesday after a coffin was found dumped in the school's compound.

The coffin has a body inside.

Parents said they had reports that a body had been spotted behind a classroom.

This led to a commotion as members of a local church who had held prayers in the school were accused of dumping the body.

Angry parents threatened to lynch the school's headteacher claiming he had conspired with certain people to dump the body and claim there were evil spirits.

The motive, parents said, was to extort money from the pupils through contributions as payment for prayers to chase away the evil spirits.

Police were called to save the situation as two people were arrested in connection with the incident.
