Doctors at Thika Level 5 hospital have removed 13 needles from a baby's body.
Thirteen sewing needles were successfully retrieved from the boy's body after a successful operation.
Speaking of the incident, the baby’s mother Jacinta Ndunge said she discovered the needles after they pricked her while she was applying jelly on the baby’s bottoms.
She then informed doctors who carried out an X-ray that revealed the objects.
The doctors quickly performed an operation where they removed 13 needles but left another which they said had penetrated the hip bone and needed more specialised attention.
Kiambu County Chief Officer for Health Andrew Toro revealed that removing the needle could easily damage tissues since it is lodged too deep inside one of the bones.
“Removing an object like that from the child’s body is dangerous and could damage blood vessels, nerves, trigger infections and could even cause death,” said Toro
The 31-year-old mother does not know how the needles entered the body.
Currently, the baby is still recuperating at the hospital.
