Residents of Flyover area in the outskirts of Eldoret town were on Friday in a rude shock after a man allegedly defiled and strangled a 5-year-old girl.
The mother of the baby could not shy away but narrated the ordeal that stroke her family.
"It had rained for a while in the afternoon and my two girls were selling at my kiosk just nearby. I was at home fetching water. I later asked my first born to come and take their sweaters. I asked her where her sister was and she said she was playing with the neighbor's child," narrated the tearful mother.
"As it became dark, my 5-year-old girl had not returned with her elder sister," she added.
The mother could not wait any longer and she went to ask the children who were playing with her who told her that a man on a motorcycle had taken her.
"I looked for her following the directions I was given. I asked people but they said they had not seen her or the man,” she said.
After a long search, the mother's worst fears were confirmed after finding her girl dead in the neighborhoods.
"I screamed for over thirty minutes. He had raped and strangled my baby and blood was flowing. Why did he kill her? He would have raped her and left her for me to treat. Why did he have to be so inhumane?" the angry mother with tears flowing uncontrollably aked.
Daniel Kamau, a village elder confirmed the incident admitting that the man was a well-known guy.
"He usually operates a boda-boda and lives in the area. He is a very quiet man who does not speak a lot," said Kamau.
The man who has since gone into hiding is being sought by the police.
