According to witnesses, the fire broke while students were away for evening studies.

"I noticed fire at around 10:20 pm and alerted teachers who immediately directed students not to go near the dorm," said a night security guard at the school who declined to be named.

The guard said Garissa County Fire engine arrived at the scene some minutes later after an alarm was raised and managed to contain the fire but all valuables belonging to students had been razed down by the time fire was put off.

"Students lost all valuables including boxes, books, beddings because the fire spread too fast," added the guard.

No one was injured during the inferno.

The cause of fire has not been established.
