A village was met with a rude shock after a Form Four student died on Tuesday evening after she was swept by flood waters at River Nyangweta, in Kenyenya Sub-county, Kisii county.
The deceased who was a student at Magenche Secondary School, was heading home after participating in school ball games at Maiga Secondary School.
The incident comes after a prolonged rainy season experienced in all parts of the country.

"From what we have seen here,it is clear the girl was trying to cross the bridge which is now overflowing," said Asanyo.
He further said that the efforts by members of the public to save the girl were futile as by the time she was retrieved from the waters she was already dead.
"When we came to the site after an alarmed was raised some of us tried our best to save the girl but unfortunately she was gone," he said.
The body after being retrieved was taken to Kisii County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Mr Asanyo also appealed to members of the public to cautious when crossing swollen rivers and schools to be wary of students safety when releasing them during the ongoing rainy season.
