Police in Mbeere North Sub County has put into custody a General Service Unit officer suspected of murdering his girlfriend and their six months old son two years ago.
The remains of the victims were found in a pit latrine.Area DCIO Richard Mathenge said the suspect, his mother and a farm hand are being held at Siakago police station in relation to the brutal murder of Pauline Kagendo and her six months son Johnson Muriithi.
According to Kagendo’s mother Onorata Kanini, her daughter was in a relationship with the officer early 2015 before they got a child in December the same year.
They were, however, living separately. She said her daughter and grandson went missing on June 10, 2016, the day she visited the officer at his home to take the baby to the hospital.According to Kanini, Kagendo did come back home for almost a month making which led to her suspicion.
She reported the matter to Ishiara police station and surprisingly, her complaint was never booked. The daughter’s boyfriend disagreed with claims of her knowledge of her whereabouts.A distressed Kanini says, last month a close relative to the officer confessed to having seen him butcher the two and dump the remains in a pit latrine.
Seventeen-year-old Kagendo was a Form one student at Kanyueri Secondary School.
The family says they have received several death threats from the suspect who comes from a well-off family and they fear he might have influenced the authorities to put off the investigations. The family has called on the government to intervene to make sure that justice is served to their dead daughter and grandson.
DCIO Mathenge said investigations are ongoing as the three family members have since been arraigned in court as investigations continue.“The three were produced in court last week and we applied for 14 days to conclude investigations.
A team of pathologists will to collect samples from the latrine on Thursday,” he said. He called on the family to be patient assuring them that justice will be served.
