A family is mourning their 28-year-old son who was among nine Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers who were killed in an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants near Somalia town of Dhobley.
Boniface Kamau was among the KDF soldiers who were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
While the family in Nyakahura village in Kangema, Murang'a County is making burial preparations for Kamau, the father, Simon Irungu is awaiting sentencing for charges of manslaughter.
Mr Irungu, a retired assistant chief for Nyakahura sub-location, was arraigned in court to answer to charges of causing the death of a youth from the same village by the name Irungu a few years ago.
The court heard that on the material date Mr Irungu was drunk at a ceremony when chaos erupted and he pushed Irungu to the ground and he allegedly died as a result of the injuries he suffered when he fell.
According to tuko.co.ke, the charge was reduced from murder to manslaughter and the father is now being remanded at the Murag'a G. K. Prison awaiting sentencing.
The family is now at a cross roads on whether to postpone the burial or move to court to request for a new date for Mr Irungu's sentencing.
