Whether you have read the Bible or not, the amount of offerings to present before your God is never debatable.
Some people argue that one should offer a tenth of his income, while others believe that God will still acknowledge any amount offered.
On Sunday, a Catholic priest in Kisumu surprised many congregants as he set the amount of offering to be brought to the church by the worshipers.
While ending the service, the priest warned the congregants not to offer anything whose value is less than five shillings.
“It requires a lot of courage to say it, but it’s for the good. If you have anything below five shillings, just keep it. Don’t bring it to the altar,” said the priest.
The sentiments led to mixed reactions among congregates with some claiming that the priest was crossing the set boundary.
“It’s not good at all. The Bible reads that one should offer whatever he or she got. That is being greedy,” said one of the church members.
However, another section of congregates supported the priest saying that one should make an offering according to his income.
“If you made a thousand shillings, you should at least offer a hundred shillings,” a middle-aged lady opined.
