According to the wife to the deceased man Susan Kagendo, 29, the family had been engaging in a drinking spree as they have always done during the end month weekends every month before the time of the incident.

She added that her husband Fred Muthee, 36, suggested that they hold the family drinking spree of the locally manufactured liquor at the top of their four storey building which is still under construction despite them living on the first floor of the apartment.

Kagendo told the press that after mid-night, they left her husband finishing on the remaining bit of the brew, before he delayed on his return to the room and she decided to check on his whereabouts.

“He overstayed on the roof of the incomplete building and I had to check on him. I decided to go back to the roof and on arrival I missed him there and that’s when I became suspicious and started calling out on him,” she said.

Confirming the incident, Thika deputy OCPD Julius Chumbule said that the police received a call from the deceased’s wife at around 1:00am claiming that her husband had committed suicide and they rushed to the scene immediately.

He added that the officers who examined the crime scene said that the man might have been drunk himself out and fallen out of the effects of the brew. He noted that the area had no wall or barriers barring him from falling, and so due to staggering he could have fallen accidentally.

“We have gotten the results of the post-mortem and the deceased had only a head fracture where he was hit after falling down and so we suspect he could have fallen accidentally from the fourth floor,” the officer said.
