A family in Kisii got a perfect New Year surprise this week, when their son, whom they thought had died in a road accident last year appeared at their home.
According to the family, 29-year old Vincent Oyugi worked in a farm in Narok County, and on the fateful day, his mother received word that a pickup that was ferrying her son and other workers had been involved in a road accident.
However, Oyugi survived the accident after jumping off the vehicle before it could crash, and lived to tell the story.
“I was worried at how the pickup was moving, so I jumped, and watched as it crashed, but got few scratches,” said Oyugi.
Eunice Moraa, Oyugi’s mother was forced to travel to Narok to confirm if indeed it was her son, but according to her, the body had overstayed and could not be properly identified.
The body was brought home to Riamakanda village and buried on December 4, last year, only for Oyugi to reappear exactly a month after the burial.
“I was told my son had died, so I called the village elders and we talked about it. I was told my son had been involved in a road accident, on November 21,” said Eunice Moraa, Oyugi’s mother.
The family now plans to obtain a court order to have the body buried in their compound exhumed.
