A 15-year-old boy at Kimbirira village in Molo committed suicide on Monday afternoon by drowning himself into a bore hole.
The boy, Francis Kamau, is said to have developed a mental problem few hours before drowning himself into 70-feet bore hole located few metres from his father's homestead.
According the mother, Beatrice Wairimu, the boy had threatened to kill himself before.
"He had told me that he feel like killing himself, but he did not say why he wanted to do so," said Wairimu.
Warimu said she suspected the boy had cerebral malaria which interfered with his brain before the act.
She said Kamau had been sick for a couple of days before his death.
Confirming the incident, Kimbirira sub-location assistant chief urged residents to seek treatment in hospitals when they feel sick.
"I want to advise people of Kimbirira to seek treatment when sick. If this young boy could have been taken to hospital this couldn't have happened,” said the chief.
The body of the deceased was taken to Molo district hospital mortuary.
