Livestock farmers in Rongai, Nakuru County have now devised new ways of curing their animals, after failing to get help from the county government.
The farmers have now resorted to using the local Busaa brew to treat their animals of some of the common diseases like the Foot and Mouth disease.
They say the brew has so far proved effective, though they are not sure the effects the brew might have on the animal products like milk.
The local provincial administration is, however, warning that the continued use of the brew for treatment may be used.
The farmers are now pleading the government to step in and help them, saying it is their only source of livelihood.
The farmers have so far lost many animals, and desperation has forced them to seek for alternative means of treating the animals.
They have accused the local leaders of abandoning them when they need them most, adding that the last time they saw them was during the campaign period.
“We have never seen them since the campaign period, we have been barred from even seeing them in their offices, we have problems and they have pushed us this far, we are not qualified to treat animals,” one resident said.
The administration officers now fear the locals might fall into busaa brewing if they continue using it as their means of treating the animals.
