A police officer who was posted at a camp in Garissa has committed suicide.
The officer turned his official gun to shoot himself in the mouth and died on the spot on Tuesday.
According to his colleagues, the officer developed stress after being transferred to Ijara camp contrary to his expectations to be taken to a better place having served in Garissa for 3 years.
"He was moved to near a post that was attacked by Al-Shabaab late last year. He was stressed and left a note to show he was not happy,” said a colleague.
The body was taken to a mortuary ahead of its transfer to Nairobi.
Confirming the incident, North Eastern regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh said investigations had commenced to establish what transpired the shooting.
Police have attributed such cases on the rise to stress and harsh living in the service.
