Female teachers at a school in Western Kenya were on Thursday shocked as the institution slapped a ban on lipstick and make-up use among female staff.
The ban was layed bare through a letter by Friends School Kaimosi Girls Principal Violet Opala who prohibited female members of staff from making-up while on duty.
"I write to inform you that we are finding it difficult to correct some students in our school over the aforementioned," the one-page letter dated June 2, reads in part.
"They are pointing at us as the ones leading them into this. I therefore ask that from the date of this letter, no female staff should use lipstick or eye make-up while on duty in school and while with students out for any school function."
The school head however, told the affected staff that they were free to make-up while at school when the students are away or while not on duty.
Her letter also remained silent on male staff since nowadays, men, just like women make-up.
"It is unfortunate that the girls are pointing at us to be leading them in that area. Remember your outlook s not your up look."
