A form three student was on Friday, February 16 found dead, hours after allegedly participating in a swimming competition.
The student, Kelvin Kariuki from St Paul Gathukiini Secondary School is said to have gone for the competition at Elite Secondary School in Kiharu.
Kariuki, an orphan, is said to have been in a group of nine students from his school, who were participating in the inter-schools competition in Murang’a East sub-county.
The guardians of the form three students are now crying foul after the incident, accusing the school of negligence.
They questioned the response of the school management, saying they took long to notice that their nephew was missing.
Murang’a East OCPD Japheth Ogalo said that according to reports, the competition began at 10 am and ended at 3 pm, but the body was only found at 5 pm by a swimming pool attendant.
According to Richard Ng'ang'a, Murang'a East Director of Education, investigations into the matter have kicked off, and all those found guilty will be brought to book.
He has further instructed all games teachers from the eight schools who were in attendance during the day to write detailed reports and give an account of all happenings of the day.
