A train laden with 250,000 litres of Super Fuel came off the rails minutes to midnight in a freak accident Saturday night, overturning in Changamwe, Mombasa.
The accident left seven of the cargo train's wagons submerged in water.
Authorities swiftly descended on the scene and closed a stretch of the Makupa Causeway in a bid to prevent the public from reaching the scene of the accident.
The closure affected transport in the area with the nearby Moi International Airport also being affected.
Firefighters also descended on the scene to prevent any outbreak of fire given the flammability of Super Fuel.
Police have confirmed the accident and have said that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing and a report will be given once they are done.
