Residents of Mandera county are calling upon the county, national governments, and other agencies to help as heavy rains continue to pound the region.
Two children are reported missing following the rains.
It is reported that the children have not been seen for the last two days.
Mandera county boss, Ali Roba has confirmed the reports, adding that he is solidly behind the families in the quest to find the missing children.
“We share in the pain of the families and we pray for their safety," said Governor Roba. The county boss also said that his government is working alongside other agencies to ensure that the problem is solved once and for all. He called upon different groups including Kenya Red Cross to continue supporting the government in the fight to protect the local citizens as floods rage.
“Preliminary reports indicated extensive damage on the property as transport was slowed down because of rains rendering roads impassable,” he said.
“We are appealing to agencies like Kenya Red Cross and Ministry of Devolution and particularly state department of Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) to intervene so that our collective synergy can improve the situation of the affected populations,” Roba added.
