Residents in Kiogoro division, Nyaboterere sub location in Kisii county were left stranded after a family came to get the body they had buried two days ago.
The residents had taken the body from a morgue in Kisii without them knowing that they had mistakenly taken a wrong body.
The owners of the body went to Kisii Central police station to demand an order to get their body back from the family that had taken it.
After being given an order by the court, the relatives and friends of the deceased made their way early morning escorted by a number of armed police from the Kisii Central police station.
After the relatives and friends of Mr Obino arrived at the village where Mr Obino had been buried, the process of getting out the body began as the villagers stood a distance to watch in disbelieve. After three hours of strain to get to the body out of the casket, they finally got the body out.
They had to open the casket despite the stinking smell that was coming out.
After confirming that they had got their right body, they moved the body to a waiting ambulance as the police took the role of controlling the crowd that almost caused chaos.
The deceased body was taken to the mortuary in a hospital in Kisii waiting to be taken for fresh burial. Our efforts to reach the affected family did not however succeed.
