A girl was mauled to death by a hyena in Mandera county yesterday.
The incident happened after the stray hyena from Malkamari National Park strayed from the abandoned park to the village killing a young girl and injuring another elderly person.
The locals in retaliation killed the hyena.
According to Abdulahi Derrow a human rights activist in the area, the animal strayed from the abandoned national park.
“A girl was mauled to death by a stray hyena in Malkamari, an abandoned National park in Mandera. The animal was killed in retaliation to prevent future conflicts,” noted Derrow.
This is not the first time such an incident is happening.
A similar incident happened last year where two children were killed as 6 other members were killed by stray hyenas.
