A middle aged man was buried at night under unclear circumstances an incident that has left villagers in shock.
This happened on Tuesday in Kenyamware village in Sirate area Bosamaro Chache, Nyamira County.
Villagers said the deceased identified as Mose has been sick for several years.
"Mose has been sick for years until he died last week while receiving treatment at Nyamira County hospital.
"His sickness led to him to sell all his piece of land and other family property to pay for medical expenses but he didn’t survive at long last,” said Peter Ondoro, a neighbor.
Ondoro said plans were underway to build a house for the deceased before he can be buried but those people who bought his land interfered and brought the body secretly on Monday night and buried it without the knowledge of villagers.
“Cartels who bought his land never wanted to provide a portion where we can build a house for the deceased.
"They went ahead and brought the body at night, paid few youths who dug the grave and buried him at night,” he noted.
Elders in the area led by Simon Mabuka condemned the incident and said the body must be exhumed to be buried afresh.
“Cartels who are after grabbing people’s lands in the village in the name of buying using illegal procedures will not have space in the village. As villagers we have agreed to move to court to seek orders to exhume the body and bury Mose afresh,” he said.
